AN ACT TO REPEAL SECTION 97-37-31, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, WHICH PROHIBITS THE MANUFACTURE, SALE, POSSESSION AND USE OF SILENCERS ON FIREARMS; TO PROVIDE THAT THE FEDERAL LAW ON SILENCERS ON FIREARMS SHALL APPLY IN THIS STATE; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. Section 97-37-31, Mississippi Code of 1972, which prohibits the manufacture, sale, possession and use of silencers on firearms, is repealed.

SECTION 2. From and after July 1, 1999, the federal law regarding the manufacture, sale, possession and use of silencers on firearms shall apply to the manufacture, sale, possession and use of silencers on firearms in the State of Mississippi.

SECTION 3. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 1999.
